What should I expect?
You can expect a warm welcome and to be met with understanding and acceptance. Counselling provides a safe space for you to explore the things that are important to you or that are troubling you. Your counsellor is trained to help you identify issues that are making you feel stuck or that perhaps keep occurring. They can help you improve your mental health and cope with challenges you are facing.
Please feel free to call, message or email if you have any questions.
Your relationship with your counsellor is one of the most important things that contributes to you getting the most from counselling. It may take time to find the right person. Our first session gives you the opportunity to decide if your counsellor is right for you and for them to understand what you hope to gain from counselling.
Once your sessions have been arranged you will see the same counsellor each week.
Where is it?
Counselling is at Karuna Coffee House in a private, quiet room where you will not be overheard.
It is on the first floor so may not be accessible for people who have difficulty using stairs.
We may be able to offer an accessible location - please contact us to let us know your needs. Some home visits may be available - please ask for details of how this works.
How long is a session?
Sessions are for one hour. There may be clients after your session so your counsellor cannot extend your hour or run over unless it has been agreed with you beforehand.
Counselling is usually at the same time each week.
How many sessions will I need?
Counselling is open ended. Some people only need a few sessions and others may continue for longer. Your counsellor will talk with you about your needs as you go along.
How much is it?
Our usual hourly fee is £45. We want everyone to be able to afford counselling and so we can offer some concessions if you are on a low income or benefits - please do contact us.
Karuna: although we are using a room at Karuna, we are not part of the Karuna charity. We donate to their amazing work.
